Emily Griffin-Fast Food

For one of my rhetorical sources I found an ABC news article regarding a lawsuit between an overweight man and the fast food industry. The article explains how 56 year old Caesar Barber wants to sue McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and KFC for “jeopardizing his health” and “not properly disclosing the ingredients in their food.” I find this lawsuit absurd. Barber is a grown man and should take the responsibility and know the consequences of what he eats. In the article it is stated that Barber is a diabetic and has already suffered two heart attacks. After his first heart attack or when he was diagnosed with diabetes, Barber should have had the common sense to evaluate his eating habits. Also, I disagree with his statement that the fast food restaurants did not inform him on what was in his meals. Today, the majority of the big fast food restaurant chains place the nutritional labels on their meals and website. In addition, many states have made it a law for fast food restaurants to disclose their nutrition facts. Barber had plenty of resources to reference in order to learn what is in the food he eats, he simply chose not to, which places the blame on him. Many people blame the advertisements, toys, etc. fast food restaurants promote, for obesity; however, what they do not realize is that the fast food industry is not breaking any laws or concealing the fact that their food makes people fat. The fast food industry is just one big good business man that takes advantage of the uneducated people. Instead of everyone sitting around and blaming others for their problems, they should take action by educating themselves on the right and wrong foods to eat. If Barber had done this himself, he probably would have never experienced the health issues he has now and would not be in this mess of a lawsuit.
